USA
1981 Directed by: John Carpenter. Starring: Kurt Russell,
Lee Van Cleef, Ernest Borgnine, Donald Pleasence, Isaac Hayes,
Harry Dean Stanton, Adrienne Barbeau.
This
Carpenter classic is much better than his sequel, Escape from
L.A. The plot take place in the future (1997), in New York.
The crime rate in USA rises 400 percent, and Manhattan has
been a big security prison surrounded by a high wall. There
are no guards in the prison, and the criminals lives free
in the world they made. The presidents plane crash landing
in Manhattan, and he get caught by the prisoners. Snake Plissken,
a former war hero, now imprison for a bank robbery, must rescue
him within 24 hours. If he fails, Snake will die because they
have injected something weird in him, which makes his lungs
explode when the time turns out. Be prepared for thrilling
action.

John
Carpenter painting up a very suggestive and threatening picture
of New York, there the law of the jungle rules. Kurt Russell
is, as usual good as the stony Snake Plissken. The music and
the sound effects, which Carpenter does himself to keep down
the budget, are also very good. There are some scenes that
reminds you that this is a b-film, but it´s the only flaw
I can think of.
