Through The Looking Glass Updated :

27th May 2002: Through The Looking Glass Update:
Just received an email from writer/ director Craig Griffith, who updates us on the state of indie flick Through The Looking Glass,

Principle photography on THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS has now finished. The film was completed on Wednesday 22nd of May 2002. The remainder of the shoot went well and the film has wrapped ahead of schedule without any of the hitches experienced on our first ten days of shooting at Compton House. Although still eerie the house has had a calm atmosphere this time around and apart from the odd disturbance here and there things have progressed smoothly.

Several key scenes have already being cut together by the film’s editor, Claire Pringle at OBE in London. Claire will continue to cut throughout June and July and a first cut is expected sometime towards the beginning of August. In the meantime the producers are now in the process of securing completion monies and distribution for the film, details of which will be announced nearer the time.

We would like to welcome producer Ben Lock to the film. Ben has recently been to the Cannes film festival promoting the film along with another script written by Craig entitled STRAIGHT AS AN ARROW.

Through The Looking Glass is a independent film from writer/ director Craig Griffith. The film revolves around an artist who becomes obsessed with a painting that is based upon horrific visions that he receives through a mysterious old mirror.

Here's a little more information on the plot from the official synopsis,

" An artist lives alone in a foreboding old house in the country, a place of solitude, free from distractions. For years this has been the ideal location for his workplace- far from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The Artist lives in his studio, which is little more than a big room with an easel, a mattress and a sink in it. Until recently he has been happy here; content and prolific, but now he is at odds with his work and is unable to paint. This Painter's block as it were, has lead to
a desperate man obsessed with the need to paint, leaving The Artist in

a state of disarray. All of this changes when he finds a large mysterious package left on his doorstep....... As events progress strange things begin to manifest. At first these seem trivial: lights flicker on and off and inanimate objects appear to be moving by themselves. However things soon escalate into increasingly disturbing occurrences such as horrific sounds, doors banging, apparitions seen in the mirror, strange shadowy figures and people disappearing. During this time he becomes wracked by horrific and surreal visions that begin to fuel his work. To The Artist it appears as if these visions are being bequeathed to him by the curious venerable mirror- as if the lives and deaths of its owners, past and future, were somehow being replayed to him. As he experiences each aberration, The Artist enters an almost trance-like state, during which he paints what he sees". More

Filmmaker Griffith has put the project together himself, from the screenplay and direction to the actual financing. Through The Looking Glass has a budget of around £2000 with a production crew of eight people. It has been shot on DV and is indeed still shooting in a thousand year old house in England. Although at present it looks like filming has been postponed judging by a posting on the official site, "Filming on the psychological thriller, 'Through the Looking Glass', has been forced to terminate due to mysterious circumstances. We hope to be able to resume shooting once again in about 3 weeks".

Craig has told me that the film will finish production at the end of May. The trailer is available to download from the official site and things look good. Great production values (considering the budget) and great cinematography from Chris Britton. Can't wait to see the finished movie guys.......
