The 51st State is to be renamed Formula
51 for US release. Sam Jackson has been talking to Coming
Soon about the movie.
"It's about a guy from Inglewood who creates a designer
drug that he takes to the U.K. to sell to the highest bidder.
I'm the guy."
Question: Is it like XTC or another party drug?
Jackson: "It was called 'The 51st State' because the
drug is fifty times stronger than cocaine, XTC, acid, all
that stuff. It takes you to the 51st state of whatever. But
they changed the name for here, because they said American
audiences just didn't get it. So now it's 'Formula 51.' It's
with me and Robert Carlyle. I meet him when I get there and
he kind of leads me through the Liverpoolian underground."

Samuel L. Jackson has been speaking to Ananova
about his fears of wearing a kilt for The 51st State. "I
have never had to cross-dress in any way so it was a whole
new phenomena for me.To
tell the truth, I wasn't at all happy about the idea until
I saw Ewan McGregor in one at the Star Wars premiere. Then
I saw Sean Connery looking proud in his. I thought 'If this
man can look good in a skirt, then anyone can!'. Robert
Carlyle, who's also a real Scot, told me I looked 'cool'."

The shoot for this $27 million movie wrapped last December
taking in locations, Liverpool, England and Los Angeles. The
film is penned by a young English writer who wrote the script
while working in an off license in the UK. His story made
headline news at the time when the movie was greenlight, particularly
following the announcement that Samuel L. Jackson would appear
alongside an array of British talent like Ryhs Ifans, Robert
Carlyle and Royle Family star Ricky Tomlinson. Meatloaf also
features in the movie, set entirely in Liverpool.
Sam Jackson is also Executive Producer.
Screen Gems, a division of Sony Entertainment has picked up
the US distribution rights for the film.
