The fantastic trailer for post apocalyptic fantasy movie Reign Of Fire has finally hit the web. The promo is available in three formats, Real, Windows Media and Quicktime over at the official website. Follow this link. Also, the first promo poster has also been posted, of which you can see at the very top of this page.

An update on Reign Of Fire. First of all, Showbiz Ireland have posted some of the actual storyboards from the film over at their website. They appeared over there last year, but somehow they slipped through the net. Sorry about that. Anyway, take a look. You also may want to check out the official site of the movie, which has loads of content including synopsis, images from the movie and a promise of a trailer 'coming soon', so keep checking the page to see when it goes online. Rumour has it that you'll be able to see the full trailer in cinemas with The Scorpion King this weekend! I'll let you know for sure on that as soon as I can.

The surprising thing about the official site is that it doesn't show us any of the dragons that feature in the movie. But don't fear, as director Rob Bowman has been describing them to SciFi Wire,

"I did not want to make the dragon from Dragonheart, which was a large body, small wingspan and had to flap like mad to stay in the air," Bowman said in an interview. "Mine have big, giant wingspans like an eagle, but take a king cobra and put it down the center." Go to Sci Fi for the rest of the interview.

The release date for the film has now been set as July 12th 2002 (US).



Previous updates: Reign Of Fire is going to be quite a mixture of genres as it is mixing in Dragons which usually firmly reside in a timeless fantasy world with a post apocalyptic setting. Its set in England in the year 2018 where Dragons have came out of hiding to rule the world.

Matthew Mcconaughey plays a militia leader called Dragonslayer. Christian Bale's character is what is known as a 'fire chief' , Bale's characters mother was killed by a Dragon. Bale and McConaughey team up in this movie to seek out The Queen of the Dragons. Izabella Scorupco is playing a pilot/scientist in the movie and her role will also entail her being Bale's love interest. bale's character is English in the movie but McConaughey's is American. It's not known yet if this is just to save problems with accents or if it is a plot detail.

Interestingly McConaughey is playing his role with a shaved head in Reign Of Fire. Also signed up for a role is Alexander Siddiq (Deep Space Nine) who will play the best friend of the lead character and is half pakistani/half english.

Directing Reign Of Fire is Rob Bowman whose most recent directorial outing was for the X-Files movie.

Spyglass Entertainment have been developing this movie for quite a while as they bought the script for Reign Of Fire back in 1996.In fact rumours circulated that Arnold Schwarzenneger was up for a part in Reign Of Fire at one point, but commitments such as Terminator 3 put paid to that rumour.

Also rumoured for a part in Reign Of Fire has been Jamie Bell, who most of you will remember as Billy Elliott. The part he was rumoured for was as Bale's little brother, this may just be speculation as the role didn't exist in the script. It turned out he wasn't apparently allowed more time off school to take the role anyway!

Filming has mainly been in Ireland, considering teh movie is based in England it was probably filmed in Ireland due to the tax breaks that the Irish government gives for filming compared with what the British government gives. There's also rumours of some filming to be done in North Africa, we'll keep you posted on that rumour.

You can find a review of the script by the amazing scooper Stax over at Filmforce. Stax is quite positive about the movie as it appears to be putting a spin on some well worn themes.

A Scooper for Coming Attractions spoke to Matthew Mcconaughey and got loads of information out of him about the movie, such as ; there will be hand to dragon fighting, most of the world has been decimated by the dragons, fighting is guerilla warfare,the dragons don't speak and most of the dragons appearances will be CG.
