Mean Machine's release date looks like it may have been brought
forward. In the UK, the film will be released on Boxing Day,
December 26th, and not during the first part of 2002 as was
expected. It's thought that the film will open in the US one-two
months after its UK release. Vinnie Jones' previous brit flick
Snatch was released in the US almost four months after it
was in the UK.

Based on the movie of the same name released all the way back
in 1974 starring Burt Reynolds. That movie saw inmates challenge
wardens to a game of American football over in the States.
This time, the action is relocated to the UK and the game
is soccer. And who better to take the Burt Reynolds role,
ex-Wimbledon and Wales footballer, Vinnie Jones. After supporting
roles in Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrells, Snatch and Gone
In Sixty Seconds, the remake of Mean Machine see's Vinnie
in his first lead role. He stars opposite fellow LS&TSB
co-stars Vaz Blackwood and Jason Statham and Alf Garnett himself,
Warren Mitchell.
Filming has been taking place in Oxford jail over here in
the UK during May and June. The film is being directed by
first time helmer, Barry Skolnick who's previous work consisted
of Reebok ads and Sky Sports trailers. Executive producing
the movie are the guys behind Snatch and Lock, Stock, Guy
Ritchie and Matthew Vaughn.
Vaughn has been quoted in an interview with the Sunday Telegraph
over here saying , "They want to win the game but
they are interested in causing as much pain and doing as many
fouls as, for the first time ever, they have 90 minutes of
legitimately hurting the guards and getting away with it."
