Dark Horizons reports that the new Dr. Who movie will be a combination of live action and CGI and is still aiming for a 2003 release.

Update: 26/4/01

Page created. It had to happen, after countless TV series, a TV movie and a following of millions worldwide, Doctor Who is expected to get a big screen movie outing. The biggest rumours on the net at the moment is regarding who will play the doctor. Early this year, both Sean Bean and Tara Fitzgerald were said to have been cast in the film, as the Doctor and his assistant repectively. That one appeared in The Mirror over here. And get this, they reported that the movie would have a budget of around £250 million. Yes, that's pounds, not dollars. Ludicrous. The BBC responded by saying that this information was incorrect and sheer 'nonsense'. Recentley the hot rumour was that Hugh Grant was to take the role, but again the BBC rubbished the rumours. The most likely thing we've heard is that Charlie Higson (The Fast Show, Randall & Hopkirk - BBC remake) has written the screenplay. But even this has not been confirmed. The only thing that the BBC have said officially is that "We are talking to a famous American director and hope to announce his name in the next few months. A British actor will definitely play the Doctor but we have not decided who yet." That appeared in The Sunday Telegraph over here and came from the lips of BBC's David Thompson. We'll keep you posted.
