The
actual title of this film is now Chrome and is set in
the year 2131 in a nightmare world where seas of robot
slaves toil under a dark world-dominating totalitarian
government.
The film's director filled us in on the difference between
this and the original concept of thw War Of The Worlds
film. "It was a difficult transition from the
WAR OF THE WORLDS project.
When the tragedy of September 11th occurred, we had little
time to rebound. I felt from the beginning that we were
going into CHROME spread too thin. And I didnt want
to do a picture like that. So twice we extended the pre-production
time by
several
weeks until I was satisfied that we were doing this picture
right."
Timothy
has made the right choices in extending pre-production,"
says producer Susan Goforth, "Moviegoers will flip
out when they see the array of amazing robots in CHROME, which
are a combination of live actors, animatronics and CGI. Timothy
has been very adamant that the mechanics work and that the
robot characters are plausible. You dont have to be
with Timothy very long to know that hes the real thing.
He has a gift of totally focusing on the details, while never
losing the bigger picture. His focus is one hundred percent
on making a great movie, and on telling a great story."
handling the CGI effects for the film are Foundation Imaging
(STAR TREK VOYAGER, DEEP SPACE 9, ROUGHNECKS: STARSHIP TROOPERS
CHRONICLES).
Principal
photography (live-action) will start on March 18th 2002
and will last for nine weeks. The film will then move
on for several weeks of minature and effects shooting
ready for the films release. The film will be released
in theaters worldwide in the summer of 2003.
Meanwhile various studios are in the run for distribution
rights. These include Universal, Artisan, USA Films and
Destination Films. Hines also stated that
Chrome will
be the first film of a proposed trilogy. There wil also be a
comic book adaptation by Bryan Randall that will be released
at the same time as the movie.
